September is the month when the summer season comes to an end as cooler temperatures and the colorful leaves of fall approach. One of the most festive ways for you and your family to celebrate fall is to go apple picking. Apples are in season during September’s peak, which means that there’s no better time than now to head to a popular apple orchard near you. To make things easier, we’ve put together a list of five of the best apple orchards in North Georgia so you and your family can start making plans today.
B.J. Reece Orchards
The B.J. Reece Orchard is open daily from 9am to 6pm during September and October. Located in Ellijay, Georgia, this family-owned orchard offers weekend family fun with ziplining, petting farms, train rides, pumpkin picking, pony rides, and more. After you and your family get your hands on some delicious apples, make sure to stop by B.J Reece’s regionally famous bakery where you can buy delicious apple pies, chocolate covered strawberries, caramel apples, and several flavors of homemade bread.
Located near Ellijay, Georgia, Hillcrest Orchards is one of the most popular Apple picking destinations in the North Georgia mountains open during the months of September through November. The farm market is open every day, where you can find countless bushels of tree-ripened apples, cider, apple butter, local honey, jams, syrups, bakery goods, toys and much more. If you’re looking to get your fix of local in-season produce, this is the place for you.
Red Apple Barn
Make your way to the Red Apple Barn, located in Ellijay, Georgia any weekend through October for a U-Pick apple orchard with complimentary apple cider and apple cider doughnuts. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a friendly staff that will take you to the orchard on a hayride. At the orchard, you’ll find a play area, a picnic area, rock painting, games, and more. Red Apple Barn has been named the top place to pick apples in Georgia, and if you’re not a fan of apples, they also have a large pumpkin patch that opens in October, so you can still have a U-Pick adventure.
Since the 1920’s, Panorama Orchards has been providing customers with delicious farm fresh apples. Located in the beautiful North Georgia mountains near Ellijay, this family-friendly establishment has over 20 different varieties of apples, and even more apple-related products from their own kitchen. Their specialty items include apple cider, panorama fried pies, applesauce bread, apple brandy cake and fresh-baked apple pie.
Located east of Ellijay on Hwy 52, R&A Orchards has several delicious apple products, as well as jam, hot sauces, honey, spices, and soups. R&A Orchards is owned and operated by the Futch Family who, over their 70 years of collective hard work, have established over 60 acres of apple trees and approximately 10 acres of peaches and nectarines. If you can’t make it to this popular apple orchard this season, they have an online store for you to browse and shop in so you can get your apple fix no matter what.
